The full Tunisia: Carthage and Sidi Bou Said, the medina of Tunis, the holy city of Kairouan, the oasis of Tozeur, the dunes of Douz, the troglodyte villages of Matmata and the multicultural island of Djerba, before Roman El Jem and the coast.

Along the way: a school visit, artists’ studios, a date tasting, oasis biking and plenty of unhurried time with Tunisian colleagues. Comfortable 3- and 4-star hotels with pools — and sometimes music and dancing into the night.
